Youth Ski Program

Programs.jpg

Age Groups: Kindergarten thru Grade 8

  • Snowy Owls: Grades K-2

  • Red Foxes: Grades 3-4/5

  • Bobcats: Grades 5/6-8

    • (We shuffle kids around based on ability, peers groups, etc.)

Cost: There is no program fee. Families just need to be annual members of the club. If the annual cost of membership is prohibitive reach out and we will accommodate you!

Equipment: Free for first year skiers, $50/season rental after. We have about 25 sets.

Schedules:

Tuesday (starting date 12/5), 3:30-4:45: Red Foxes (grades 3-4/5) and Bobcats (grades 5/6-8)

Thursday (starting date 12/7), 3:30-4:45: Skate Skiing

Saturday (starting date 1/6), 11-12:30: ALL LEVELS!

Tuesday and Thursday practice will start up on 12/5 (to align with the MES afterschool schedule), and run 12/5, 12/7, 12/12, 12/14, then be off until the new year. Saturday practice will begin in the new year. All programs will run until the first week of March.

A few things to note:

1. Saturday practice moved later by 1 hour.

2. No Snowy Owls (the littlest skiers, grades K-2) on Tuesdays. And again, the Saturday practice will not begin until January.

3. Thursday practice is a little more serious, for kids who want to take their skiing up a level. Families will need to provide their own skate equipment, as the club doesn't have that.

FOR MES STUDENTS TAKING THE BUS:

Parents are responsible for notifying the school (Email to gchaine@windhamcentral) when their child will be taking the bus

What we need from you:

1. The names of your children who plan to participate and the days during which they'll be coming.

2. If they're renting classic gear from the club, it would be helpful to get a heads-up on height/weight/shoe size.

Volunteering:

As you already know, we have two amazing coaches in Spencer and Andy (who will be working with the Red Foxes again this year), but this program also relies heavily on help from parental volunteers to function well. We'd like to have 2-3 adults with each group each practice. You don't need to be a good skier to do this, especially for the younger ages! It's just great to have help when the group decides to split up, or if there are some kids having a tough time/low energy day. If you are able to make a consistent commitment to come to a practice or two each week, that would be tremendously helpful! For instance, you might say, "Hey! I can be there reliably on Saturdays to work with the Snowy Owls." Or, "I can do Thursdays with the skate ski kids." It makes a world of difference if you're able to do so.
